Arlene Mather was a Norfolk resident for most of her life but moved back to Clearwater for a while, then to the Meadows Nursing Home in Norfolk upon her death on February 4, 2019. She was united in marriage to her husband Dean Mather from February 22, 1948, until he died in 2003. They had 5 children together; Linda, Dennis, Robert, David, and Jeanne. In July of 1963, they relocated to Clearwater, Nebraska, where they bought the grocery store and operated it until 1978. In 1984, they earned their place back in the store until 1993 when they sold it to their daughter Jeanne. Arlene joined the Concordia Lutheran in October of 1963 and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #267 in Clearwater and Winter Munson #1644 Auxiliary in Norfolk, Nebraska. Arlene also served on the Clearwater Public Library Board as secretary and was a member of the Elkhorn Valley Extension Club where she has served as president and secretary-treasurer.
